August Chair's Column: Seasons Change

If you are like me, then you can hardly believe it is August! We are in the middle of summer and stores are already putting out Fall merchandise. As a child, I always thought that time passed as slowly as molasses, but as an adult, I want time to slow down to allow me to reflect on the activities that make up the fabric of my life, but seasons change, and we are ever looking forward. GEDA is no exception to this. July is a month we use to get together regionally and share good news and events, while behind the scenes planning is heavily underway for the Annual Conference next month. We are also looking ahead to the next legislative session and have sent out a survey that I encourage all of you to take the time to complete. If you have not already done so, please take the Public Policy Survey.

This year is also a season of change for our elected officials as we transition to new leadership in the state. The most important thing we can do is to participate in the transition – so make sure you vote! We have an unprecedented record of being the best state in which to do business and it will be critical to elect leaders who will continue to support our efforts. We also have the best statewide economic development agency in the country, and we are fortunate to work with the economic development leaders who are often the first impression of our state and communities. However, while we certainly are proud of our accolades, we are also aware of the need for change for the more rural areas of our state, which are a big part of our state family. So be sure to join us at the GEDA August Luncheon this month where we will be focusing on rural development. Time stops for no one, so we need to make sure that time is moving our entire state forward and we are not allowing any areas in our state to move backwards. See you all at the luncheon!
